DIRECTIONS

Before First Use: Instructions on how to find your "personal best" peak flow number (usually by taking readings daily for 2-3 weeks when asthma is well-controlled).

How to Take a Reading:

  • Move the marker to the bottom of the numbered scale.

  • Stand up straight.

  • Take a deep breath, filling your lungs completely.

  • Place the mouthpiece in your mouth, between your teeth, and close your lips tightly around it. Do not block the hole with your tongue.

  • Blow out as hard and fast as you can in a single, quick burst.

  • Note the number where the marker stopped.

  • Repeat the process two more times and record the highest of the three readings.

When to Take Readings: Typically advised to take readings every morning (before medication) and/or when symptoms occur, or as directed by a healthcare professional.

Interpreting Readings: Guidance on what readings in the Green, Yellow, and Red zones indicate and what actions to take based on your Asthma Action Plan (developed with a doctor).

Record Keeping: Advise to keep a log of readings.
